The Toreador’s Song is the popular name for the aria “Votre toast, je peux vous le rendre” from the opera Carmen, composed by Georges Bizet to the libretto written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. It is sung by the bullfighter Escamillo, as he enters Act 2 (toréador is a French term for “bullfighter”) and describes the various situations in the bullring, the applause of the crowd and the fame that comes with victory. The refrain, “Toréador, en garde” forms the central part of the prelude to Act I of Carmen. It is also the theme song of the animatronic Freddy Fazbear in the game Five Nights at Freddy’s which plays when the player runs out of energy.
